Activity: Behaviour as a Product of Unmet Needs

The purpose of this activity is for parents and service providers to identify how behaviour reflects unmet needs.

Activity overview

This activity helps parents and service providers to identify behaviour as a product of unmet needs in 1 of 4 categories:

  • love and belonging
  • freedom
  • fun
  • personal mastery or power

The wider the gap between how much a child needs and how much a child perceives to get, the worse the behaviour is expected to be.

Activity instructions

Refer to the worksheet for further instructions.

Conclude the exercise by brainstorming interventions that increase a sense of genuine love, belonging, freedom, fun and self-determination.
